"Number 332 Line 4" - 2010

(wood, rope)

Description: Inspired by the writings of Leonardo DaVinci, this piece references one of his observations made while examining golden symmetry and perfect human form. This sculpture is a physical machine, loosely referencing those built by DaVinci, which mechanically highlights his observation on the relationship between a man's height and testicle size. A participant approaches the machine, stands upon the chair, and sets their height measurement. They then sit upon the chair, and set their seated height measurement. With these two measurements set in place, the participant pulls the rope, bringing the third measurement arm to the halfway point of their standing height. The final outcome is a physical measurement of the width and breadth of the participant's testicles, based on DaVinci's observation of the body.
